About Thrones of New York
Three photographers walk into a bar…
Jerrit, Jon and Tam met writing for a photography blog. Turns out we were a lot better at taking pictures than writing about them. So we did what any struggling writer does: we started drinking to help.
It didn't.
What it did do was land us in a lot of dive bars. And when you're a photographer with a camera in one hand and a beer in the other, you need something to shoot. Bartenders don't love that. Bathrooms don't care.
Turns out NYC bar restrooms are fantastic subjects. Sticker-bombed walls, graffiti poetry, a single bare bulb, locks that work, locks that very much don't. Every one has a story. So to stay productive, and to prove we got something out of all those nights besides a bar tab, we started rating them on Instagram. That was January 2018.
Then life happened. We took a few years off to figure it out.
But the thrones never really left us. So, hell, why not try this again? This time with a map, a proper inspection form, and room for a whole corps of inspectors. Including you.
Crown the best. Flush the rest.

The founding inspectors
The mission
Searching high and low for the best porcelain in New York City. We inspect bar bathrooms so you know where to go, and where to hold it.
